About Me

I fought my way through a pile of laundry, two school runs and a large gin and tonic to get here - and I expect you did too.

Once upon a time, I wrote the front page for national newspapers, tackled Government ministers on health policy and flew all over the world to find cutting-edge science stories.

Then I had a family and the adventures really began.

I have learned to juggle the demands of two little boys with those of news editors and book editors too. I'm just as likely to get inspiration unloading the dishwasher as I am going for a long country walk (with the silence shattered by two warring children, moaning about their wellies not fitting).

And on top of all of this, I usually manage to do at least one large mixed wash a day. I'm not expecting a medal but I just thought I would share that because no-one in my house seems to care. Until the sock drawer is empty, that is.

I'm new to blogging and wish I had started this years ago, as my brain has turned to mush with all those early starts and broken nights. I'm now at the stage where I can embarrass my children by pretending to know the latest dance moves. I intend to make the most of that, possibly well into their teens, as revenge for CBeebies, Thomas the Tank and Lego under my bare feet.

Family and motherhood are at the heart of my writing because they are at the centre of my life. That said I love karate (I'm a black belt), horses and gin  - but not all at the same time.

So much of what makes us laugh as mothers passes us by so quickly. Often there is no-one to share it with. I'm trying to get it all down on paper, just like I did when I was a reporter with my notebook and pen...
